The subject of the present invention is a method for incorporating a waistband in a garment sheath. It also refers to a waistband element used in this method and consisting of at least one strip 4, at least one end zone 5, 6 of which consists totally or partly of a self-attaching structure interacting with another self-attaching structure secured to the oblong element. Application of this method to the adaptation of garments to a range of garments differentiated into two to four sizes and, furthermore, into styles and fashions without the need for mechanical alterations. <IMAGE>
