PURPOSE:To efficiently polish a workpiece and improve the yield by putting a billy roll close to a contact roll to rub an abrasive belt against abrasive cloth and paper and producting fine grains of a desired mesh by means of this abrasive cloth and paper. CONSTITUTION:A contact roll 12 is belted an abrasive belt 15 and rotated with sheet-like abrasive cloth and paper 17 of the same yarn count as the belt 15 or of more rough yarn count held at the entrance side of the roll 12 and placed on a billy roll 14, and the billy roll is put close to the roll 12 for rubbing the belt 15 to the abrasive cloth and paper 17. This rubbing allows the abrasive cloth and paper 17 to break the end of the abrasive grains of the abrasive belt 15 for efficiently producing fine grains of a desired mesh on the belt 15. Thus, a workpiece can be stably polished for a long time by the dressed grains of the polishing belt 15. |
