Process for converting a roof as well as the habitable area obtained by implementing this process. Process characterised in that beams 11, 12, 13 are assembled beside the tie beam 1 and the principal rafters 2 and 3 in order to form reinforced tie beams and principal rafters. A trimming joist is assembled between the beams 12, 13 next to the principal rafters 2, 3 and braces 6, 7 are fixed to the trimming joist at their intersections. The braces situated between the tie beam 1, the trimming joist 14 and the principal rafters 2, 3 are cut and removed. The invention concerns the conversion of existing structures in order to make the roof space habitable. <IMAGE>
