The device for controlling an automatic ice making system includes an electrical circuit which operates the ice making system via a photoelectric detection arrangement. A pulsed light source (18) is placed such that light, e.g. infra-red light, will not reach a detector (21) when the ice has reached a predetermined level in the ice containing bin. - The circuit includes a peak detector and a time delay which activates the ice making system once the light source is detected for a predetermined period of time and deactivates the ice making system when the light source is not detected for another predetermined period of time, includes means 72 foreliminating the effect of ambient lights.
