<p>PURPOSE:To form a plate-shaped hardened layer on the surface of slag for inhibiting the scattering of dust, by atomizedly spreading a liquid or powder containing sodium silicate onto graphite or graphite-contg. slag having a surface temp. in a specified temp. range. CONSTITUTION:Slag separated from molten pig iron using quick lime as a desulfurizer, for instance, is received in a vessel for receiving slag. Said slag is under a condition having a surface temp. of 300-800 deg.C, and graphite, etc. precipitated from the molten pig iron are diffused to the atmosphere so that working environment is made worse. Hereon, a solution of sodium silicate above 7% concentration is spread onto the surface of said slag at a ratio of 20-40l per 1m<2> of the surface area of the slag. Altenatively, powder containing sodium silicate may be spread. Hence, a hardened layer of about 5cm in thickness is formed on the surface of the slag to inhibit the scattering of graphite.</p> |
