Process for stabilising purification station sludge, characterised by the following stages: A sludge pretreated to 50 % dryness is introduced into a first leakproof composting silo and a bottom injection of hot air under pressure is applied to this sludge during the fermentation. The fermented sludge is extracted from this first silo when its degree of dryness reaches approximately 65 to 75 %. It is introduced into a drying silo in which it is subjected to a bottom injection of hot air under pressure. The dried sludge is extracted when its degree of dryness reaches the desired percentage - (80 to 90 %). <IMAGE>
