<p>An improved method of severing butt ends of aluminum billets using an improved blade design which peels the butt end (30) from the billet. Die ring alignment prongs (3) position the blade (1) to leave a predetermined amount of metal on the die face (22) and protect the blade from inadvertent contact with the die and die ring (24). The improved blade is provided with a cutting edge (50) and angular wedge shape (66) to facilitate peeling of the butt end from the billet.</p> |
