The conventional haemorrhoid treatment units comprise a conical rod which is dimensioned as an anal dilator. Inside, it is provided with an outer ointment supply channel from which lateral outlet openings open on the outer surface. The predetermined dimensions of the anal dilator which is usually made of a plastic and is therefore hard can render treatment painful in specific phases of the treatment and in different patients. The novel treatment unit is intended to be able to operate as gently as possible and with as little pain as possible for a wide variety of cases to be treated. The treatment unit has a rod-shaped body which merely serves as an insertion aid. For dilatation of the anus and application of the ointment a separate, dilatable, elastically deformable soft member is provided as the actual treatment element on the rod-shaped body, a dilating device being allocated to the treatment element. <IMAGE>
