A device is proposed which is used for wiping windows/lens glasses of motor vehicles. The wiper device comprises a wiper arm which has a hub part, which is attached to a wiper shaft, driven in an oscillating manner, and coupled to which is a supporting arm, which belongs to the wiper arm, can be pivoted relative to the hub part on a plane which is perpendicular to the window/lens glass, and at its end which is remote from the joint bears a wiper blade lying with a wiping element on the window/lens glass. Furthermore, there engages on the support arm a spring element which produces the bearing pressure of the wiping element on the window/lens glass. Arranged on the hub part of the wiper arm is an intermediate member which can be adjusted by motor and changes the spring tension of the spring element as a function of its adjusting movement. In order when the wiping device is not in operation to relieve a pressure-sensitive wiping strip of the wiping element of the bearing pressure, the intermediate member has a shoulder which cooperates with a mating shoulder on the support arm in such a manner that the latter, together with the wiper blade, is pivoted away from the window/lens glass when the variable of the spring tension reaches a lower value. <IMAGE>
