A reaction between a gaseous and a liquid medium, in particular a fermentation in a liquid fermentation broth by oxygen supply, is carried out in a centrifuge bowl in the centrifugal field, the gaseous medium being introduced in a finely distributed state, by a bowl wall designed as a dispersion element, into the liquid and being taken off from the centrifuge bowl against an adjustable counterpressure. A surrounding the bowl, or preferably the bowl itself, is designed to be gas-tight and is kept sterile in the fermentation operation. A part-stream of the liquid medium is constantly circulated through a measurement and conditioning circuit. The feed and discharge of the gaseous medium and, possibly, also of the liquid medium, can be performed through a multiple rotary bushing on the centrifuge bowl.
