The needles (3) are held in the tricks of a needle cylinder (1) of a high-speed hosiery knitting machine by annular helical springs (5, 6, 7) made from wires of different diameters or having different diameters of winding. The springs (5, 6, 7) of different characteristics are arranged always alternately so that different springs are always one beside the other. The different springs have different frequencies of vibration and so will not all release the pressure on the needles at the same time as is the case with identical springs. <IMAGE>
