Arranged in the intake port of a quantity-controlled internal combustion engine are spring plates which, in order to prevent any flow back of combustion air, open the intake port only during the intake of combustion air and, in so doing, come to bear on a curved wedge, but otherwise close the intake port. According to the invention, the free end of that curved wedge is variously positionable so that the opening cross-section produced during intake is adjustable. A further quantity control element - for example a throttle valve - can thereby be completely dispensed with.
