A method for the manufacture of fluid control elements with hard surface for taps, in which the body of the control element is made of aluminium or aluminium alloys. The working surface of the control element is subjected to anodic oxidation in such a way that a layer of aluminium oxide is produced. This layer is subjected to a lapping process until it has a finish that is sufficient to allow it to act as a seal. The said layer of aluminium oxide is finally impregnated with a substance, which is designed to fill most of the pores. From this process, which is economic and technologically easy to perform, a control element is produced for taps that have a body, which is in the main made from aluminium or aluminium alloys. Furthermore the working surface is made from a layer of aluminium oxide, which adheres strongly to the metal body, and which can be processed until it has a smooth finish. The pores in this porous structure are then sealed by means of an impregnating substance. The impregnating substance can be freely selected so as to produce excellent characteristics.
