<p>The connector comprises an alignment member in the form of an insulating ferrule (8) having a bore (22) for slidably and snugly receiving, from either end thereof, an optical needle (4 and 6) comprising an optical fiber (10) having an optical end face (14) and having a concentric, constant cross-section, metal coating (12) provided with an end electrical contact surface (16). The optical needles (4 and 6), which have connected thereto respective electrical leads (18 and 20), can be inserted into the bore (22) therein, to bring the contact surfaces (16) into butt relationship, electrically to connect the leads (18 and 20) and simultaneously to bring the optical faces (14) into light transmitting, proximate relationship.</p> |
