<p>A method for determining the potential for a source rock to have formed oil, gas or other hydrocarbons, comprising, analysing a rock sample from said source rock using thermoluminescence techniques to firstly determine glow peak intensities, and secondly from said glow peak intensities, to determine the maturation temperature of the rock sample, and determining the geological history of the source rock so as to determine the time period for which the rock sample has been at said maturation temperature, the relationship between said maturation temperature and said time period indicating the potential for the source rock to have formed oil, gas or other hydrocarbons.</p> |
