The invention relates to a device for monitoring wire stitching in book-binding machines, especially the insertion of wire staples in brochures in the case of saddle-stitched brochure lines. The object of the invention is to provide a device whereby the quality of the processed articles is increased and the occurrence of spoilt sheets is reduced. The object of the invention is to design the device in such a manner that defective wire stitching connections can be identified irrespective of the working speed. This object is achieved in that the sensor device for recording the shape of the wire stitching is connected to an analog/digital transducer which in turn is connected to a travel increment transmitter assigned to the machine drive, a storage device storing the target signal image being installed downstream of the analog/digital transducer, a one-chip computer which compares the actual signal images with the stored target signal image being installed downstream of the storage device, and the output of the one-chip computer being connected to a display device. By means of the device, individualised quality control is permitted by recording the shape of the wire stitching.
