Drive system, particularly for motor vehicles, inter alia for those with a combustion engine, having at least one epicyclic gear set and a device for the mechanical supercharging of the engine comprising at least one compressor with a displacer action, an upstream vacuum chamber and a downstream plenum chamber and return flow passages and throttle valves. Power transmission, rotational speed variation and engine supercharging are controlled continuously as the engine operates by throttling the air flow, a steady vacuum in the intake-side vacuum chamber enabling autonomous cooling of the system under load while the compressor serves as a reaction member and, in this capacity, exerts positive control over the output speed and the output torque. To increase the torque, a reduction component of the epicyclic gear set is supported radially on the central shaft of the gear set via planet wheels and at least one compressor, the compressor being arranged so as to be rotatable about this central shaft. The compressor reaction is routed in such a way that the reduction component and a direct driving component are superimposed and an increased output torque is obtained, this output torque varying continuously (as the reciprocal of the output speed) when the transmission ratio is changed. The range of adjustment stretches from idle to a transmission ratio of 1:1.
