<p>An absolute position encoder comprising a rotary code plate for producing sinusoidal wave outputs onto a plurality of channels, each output having a different number of cycles per revolution; an AD converter for converting the sinusoidal outputs on the channels into digital signals to constitute rotary angle data of said code plate; and a ROM which stores the data in which are interpolated the angle data within a wavelength of said channel being divided into a predetermined number with the outputs of said AD converter corresponding to each of the channels as successive address data, said data being corresponded to the addresses, which stores the interpolated data of lower channels having large numbers of cycles as address data for correction, and which stores corrected data obtained by correcting the interpolation errors contained in the interpolated data of upper channels having small numbers of cycles, all at corresponding addresses. The absolute position of a moving member is detected by combining the interpolated data read by address data of the lowermost channel having the largest number of cycles and the corrected data of the channels higher than the lowermost channel read based on said address data for correction.</p> |
