A method of sealing the surfaces of porous carbon and graphite articles by impregnation at ambient pressure using a treating solution comprising a high temperature ploymerizable liquid resin of low viscosity and a heat activated catalyst. The articles are preheated before application of the treating solution in order to maximize capillary absorption. The saturated graphite then undergoes a controlled heating cycle, which cures the resin in situ. Subsequent retreatments and surface conditioning techniques may be utilized to reduce a thin, level, liquid and gas imprevious coating on the surfaces of the articles.
|
