The movable part (1) of the arm rest consists of a reinforcement (2) covered with upholstery (3) and mounted in articulated fashion about a horizontal axle (5) in a fork-joint (6) fixed on the floor (8) of the vehicle. The fork-joint (6) comprises two lateral vertical uprights (14a and 14b) between which the arm rest is mounted. The movable part (1) of the arm rest comprises a locking pin (22) which is held in contact with the upper edge (26) of the uprights (14a) of the fork-joint (6) by a return means (25).
