The invention relates to biologically active glycopeptides of the general formula Sacch-A-B-R in which Sacch is a monosaccharide residue, A is the residue of a neutral amino acid, B is the residue of a neutral amino acid or of an omega -substituted bifunctional acidic or basic amino acid and R is hydroxyl, (C1-C8)-alkyl or an optionally substituted amine residue or another acid derivative. These compounds have encephalinase-inhibiting properties and can therefore be used, for example, as analgesics in human and veterinary medicine. In addition, the isolation of these compounds from Streptomyces albus ATCC 21838 and other processes for their preparation are described.
