PURPOSE:To obtain an Si3N4 sintered body having superior strength and low specific gravity by mixing alpha-phase Si3N4 whiskers with beta-phase Si3N4 whiskers, Y2O3 and Si3N4 powder, molding and sintering the mixture. CONSTITUTION:A mixture having a compsn. consisting of 10-90wt.% alpha-phase Si3N4 whiskers, 5-50wt.% beta-phase Si3N4 whiskers, 1-10wt.% Y2O3 as a sintering assistant or 1-10wt.% in total of Y2O3 and <=9wt.% Al2O3 and the balance Si3N4 powder is prepd. The mixture is molded to a desired shape and sintered. |
