PURPOSE:To ensure that a page number appear in striking contrast with the background, by forming images corresponding to character or symbol codes in input data, in a predetermined color, converting the page number according to a delimiter means into an image in a color other than the predetermined color, combining the two kinds of images, and printing the combined images in multiple colors. CONSTITUTION:A printer part 102 superimposingly prints the contents of a page buffer 108 for black output and a page buffer 109 for red output, respectively in black and red. The printer part 102 receives a video signal sent from an image-forming part 100, and performs raster scan of a modulated laser beam on a photosensitive drum 809, thereby developing first electrostatic latent images formed by positive image exposure. The raster scan is again performed with a laser beam modulated according to a video signal of dot images from the red page buffer 109 to effect positive exposure of second images, and second electrostatic latent images thus formed are developed. Two-color toner images thus formed on the photosensitive drum 809 are transferred onto a recording material, followed by fixation.
