PURPOSE:To enable effective switching to a power-saving mode, by providing a time-setting means for variably setting the period of time required for switching to the power-saving mode depending upon a command from an image signal-generating device or by a switch or the like, and freely setting the time for switching to the power-saving mode. CONSTITUTION:An image signal-generating device 2 supplies a printer 1 with a signal indicative of the time (x) for switching to a power-saving mode depending upon a command PAUSE[x], before transmitting an image formation start signal ST. After transmission of the start signal ST, a series of image signals IMG is transmitted, and the printer 1 starts an image-forming operation. When the input of the image signals IMG runs out after a predetermined lapse of time, a waiting condition is provided, and when the waiting time exceeds the time (x) stored in a register 102, a fixing device 12 and the like are set into a non-driving condition with that timing, thereby switching to the power- saving mode. The image signal-generating device 2 sets the time (x) for switching to the power-saving mode, taking into account the image signal- generating period of its own, whereby a most effective power-saving effect can be realized. |
