PURPOSE:To improve the strength-holding power of the timing belt after running for a long time by forming a woven cloth on the surface of the engaging side by a plain weave fabric, and arranging weft consisting of a polyamide intermediate orientation yarn at right angles to the cross direction of the belt. CONSTITUTION:The timing belt consists of a rubber-like elastic base material 1 in which tensile strength bodies 2 are burried, and a woven cloth 3 is joined on the whole surface of the engaging side of the belt. The woven cloth is desired to be formed by a plain weave fabric so as to reduce the lowering of strength of the woven cloth itself at the time of forming the shape of the engaging part. And, it is particularly important that weft 4 forming the woven cloth is made using polyamide intermediate orientation yarn of cutting elongation of 50-150%. Further, the weaving density of the woven fabric forming the timing belt is required to about 25-30warps/inch, 25-31warps/inch when polyamide multi-filaments of 210denier are used.
