820,088. Automatic gramophones. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. Dec. 30, 1957 [Dec. 28, 1956], No. 39461/56. Addition to 817,510. Class 40 (2). A modification of the parent Specification in which means are provided to prevent the inertia of the feeler member and other parts carrying them beyond the appropriate position when actuated by a record of intermediate size. A stop-member 1 is mounted on a vertical shaft 2 passing through the baseboard 4 and biased to the upper position by a light spring 36. A flag-type feeler arm 5 mounted at the upper end of the shaft is struck by a record of intermediate size descending to the turntable 10 and rotates the shaft against the action of the spring 33 until the edge 34 strikes the stop-pin 34. In this position the flange 13 engages the shoulder 11 of the teasing lever 8 which controls the radius at which the pick-up is set down. Records of large diameter striking the lever 5 cause both axial and rotational movement of the shaft and move the edge 35 below the stop-pin 34 so that the flange 13 can rotate to a position where it engages the shoulder 12 of the lever 8. Resetting of the device is achieved by an element 14 actuated by the cycling mechanism. Specification 792,961 also is referred to.
