PURPOSE:To reduce cost by aerating waste water during falling by head to dissolve oxygen and by passing the waste water through an oxidation tank filled with iron oxidizing bacteria. CONSTITUTION:Iron oxidizing bacteria are stuck and concentrated on an implanting material 4 in each oxidation tank 3. Waste water 6 contg. ferrous sulfate is fed to an aeration tower 1 of a first-step apparatus and allowed to flow down through the gap in a filler 2 to well dissolve oxygen. The waste water is then passed through an oxidation tank 3 packed with the implanting material 4 through a receiving tank 1'. During passing through the tank 3, ferrous ions in the waste water are bacterially oxidized and the waste water is fed as oxidized water 7 from the overflow 5 to an aeration tower 1 of a second-step apparatus. Thus, the cost of operation can be considerably reduced.
