Class 52(3) A table consists of two rectangular. leaves 1 hinged at two adjacent corners about a vertical pivot 3 so that in one position they form a square top (Fig. 3), and in another position a long rectangular top (Fig. 6), the leaves 1 being mounted on X-form legs 5 so that, as the leaves are swung from the position of Fig. 3 to that of Fig. 6, the legs are splayed out to lower the height of the table. The legs are pivoted at the top to two blocks 9 connected by pin and slot arrangements 11. 10 to the underside of the leaves. The blocks 9 are connected by co-operating sliding guides 7, 8 and also by tension springs 19. The ends of the guides remote from blocks 9 are joined by blocks 14 which abut (when the table is in the low condition. Catches 15 hold the leaves in abutting relation and further catches 16 engage plates 18 to prevent upward lifting of the leaves when the table is in either condition. Guides 7, 8 may be replaced by telescopic tubes. |
