PURPOSE:To enable printed results and a paper run-out procedure to be common to printers having different paper run-out identifying positions, by storing a printing-stopping position set according to instructions by a host device and the operator, and stopping printing when the value stored into a storage means and the value on a printing position-counting means coincide with each other. CONSTITUTION:The operator or the like inputs a position for stopping printing, through a switch 12. The value of the position for stopping printing is set on a printing stopping counter 11 through a printing stopping counter signal 25 from an interface 1 or through a printing stopping counter signal 38 from the switch 12. Therefore, when the count on a paper feed counter 8 is decremented to coincide with the count on the counter 11, an abnormality signal 37 is outputted to stop printing. When a paper run-out identifier signal 35 is sent from a paper run-out sensor 10 to a paper run-out controlling circuit 9 after the printing is stopped, the condition is reported to a controlling circuit 3, paper feeding is conducted until the leading end of the next printing paper is set in position, and decrementing of the paper feed counter 8 associated with the next printing paper is started.
