PURPOSE:To perform a recording job with density and at the same time to avoid the disorder of a recording head, by detecting the moving speed of a recording device main body and controlling the drive of the recording head in response to said moving speed of the recording device. CONSTITUTION:When a recording start switch 21 is pushed and a rotary member 7 turns, the slit of an encoding plate 10 is detected by a photosensor 11 and sent to a CPU 25. The CPU 25 reads the information out of a RAM 26 and sends signals to a driver 28 for drive of a recording head 18. Thus the heating element of the head 18 is actuated to record a picture pattern. At the same time, the CPU 25 always measures the generating time interval tx of encoder pulses by means of an internal clock and calculates l/tx from the distance lbetween dots forming a recording picture to obtain the moving speed of a recording device main body A. While a recorded ink ribbon transmits the revolving force of the member 7 to a wind-up shaft and is wound up by a wind-up reel.
