PURPOSE:To omit the manual mode switching operations by providing a means which switches automatically the pulse mode of a dial signal set in a calling state to a tone mode when a circuit is set up to the remote side. CONSTITUTION:When an operator hooks off a handset 4 from a facsimile equipment 1 and operates the ten keys for input of a telephone number of the remote side, a prescribed dial pulse is outputted from a dial pulse/tone generating circuit 23 and the remote side is called. When the remote side gives an answer to said calling, the circuit polarity is inverted. This inversion of the circuit polarity is detected by a circuit current polarity inversion detecting circuit 21. Then a prescribed signal is outputted to an MPU 27. Thus the MPU 27 switches the present mode to a tone mode so that a DTMF signal is outputted from the circuit 23. Then a pulse mode is reset when the operator sets the handset 4 again to the equipment 1.
