PURPOSE:To produce inexpensively a carbonaceous compound material having high strength and high wear resistance by mixing small spherical meso-carbon with a thermosetting resin, silicon carbide whisker, and/or silicone nitride whisker in specified proportions, and kneading, molding, and calcining the mixture. CONSTITUTION:Small spherical meso-carbon, a thermosetting resin (e.g. phenol resin), silicon carbide whisker and/or silicon nitride whisker are mixed so as to obtain a mixture consisting of 50-96wt.% carbonaceous material generated from the small spherical meso-carbon, 30-3wt.% vitreous carbonaceous material, 20-1wt.% silicon carbide whisker and/or silicon nitride whisker in the carbonaceous compound material. An aimed carbonaceous compound material is obtd. by kneading, molding, then calcining the molded body. Since, by this process, aggregates and binder cause contraction simultaneously in the calcination stage, decrease of bonding strength of the whiskers to the carbon matrix is prevented. |
