PURPOSE:To obtain an antiviral agent, especially antiretroviral agent, especially preferably anti-AIDS virus agent containing polysaccharides or protein polysaccharide collected from sea weeds, especially Chlorophyceae as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:A sea weed of Chlorophyceae belonging to the genera Chlorella, Ulva, Hydrodictyon, Codium, Acetabularia, etc., is extracted with an aqueous solvent to afford a polysaccharide or protein polysaccharide, which is used as an active ingredient and formulated according to a conventional method to provide the aimed product. The resultant agent is administered orally in dose of 0.1-1,000mg, preferably 1-100mg/kg 1-3 times daily. Properties of the above-mentioned polysaccharide or protein polysaccharide are as follows: positive or slightly positive to alpha-naphthol sulfuric acid reaction, indole sulfuric acid reaction, phenol sulfuric acid reaction, etc.; elemental analysis, containing C 20-55%, H 3-9%, N <16% as main ingredient; pH, 6.0-7.5; soluble in water based solvent, insoluble in organic solvent; appearance, white, green or brawn; molecular weight, 10<3>-3X10<6>. |
