PURPOSE:To avoid the erasion of characters despite the input of the number of characters larger than the initial size of a field, by expanding and contracting the field in response to the number of input characters. CONSTITUTION:The character codes are supplied continuously from a keyboard 101 to write an address, for example, and a state (b) is set when a field 203 is filled with characters. If the following characters are supplied continuously, an input character string overflows the field 203. Thus the field 203 expands in the designated direction (downward) and the overflowed characters are displayed on the next line as shown in a figure (c). Then the input processing is over with the field 203 with input of a 'next item' command after input of desired character codes.
