The golf club head has weight distributed on opposite sides of a non- vertical axis (80) which extends through the centre of gravity (81) of the club head in a plane which intersects the axis (78) of the shaft above the club head to provide more accurate off-centre hits. Wooden clubs are provided with bulges and rolls which curve, respectively, about the vertical axis and an axis (86) perpendicular to it. The radius of the roll is increased to make the loft of the club uniform from top to bottom.
