PURPOSE:To obtain an antiviral agent containing polysaccharide or protein polysaccharide produced from fungus belonging to Basidiomycetes as an active ingredient, having antiviral infection action as well as safeness and excellent effect. CONSTITUTION:A polysaccharide or protein saccharide which is produced from a fungus belonging to the genus Ganoderma Flammulina or Auricularia and is an extract from fruit body of mushroom, artificial culture fungus cell and culture medium thereof by an aqueous solvent is contained as an active ingredient. The active ingredient is especially effective to AIDS, since it inhibits absorption to human-derived lymph based cell by human immune disorder virus and successive infection thereof and inhibits reverse transcriptase activity, especially infection of retrovirus having reverse transcriptase. The above-mentioned substance is administered orally in doses of 0.1-1,000mg, preferably 1-100mg/kg/ day 1-3 times.
