PURPOSE:To shorten the working distance of an arm which takes an optical disk medium out of a storing shelf and to improve the throughput of an optical disk system by collecting the access requests of optical disk media in a certain unit and a unit time and sorting these disk media. CONSTITUTION:When the access requests are produced from a 1st or 2nd information processor 2 or 3 in the order of optical disk media 125, 121, 12n, 128... stored in a storing shelf 11, a gathering type optical disk device 1 collects four requests in a certain unit and sorts the disk media as 12n, 128, 125 and 121. Then a medium moving arm 14 sets the disk media to an optical disk drive 13 in the order of 12n, 128, 125 and 121. Thus the arm 14 excludes the medium 12n out of the drive 13 after an access given to the medium 12n. Then the arm 14 moves to the shelf 11 and can immediately given an access to the medium 128. In this case, the processing is never waited until a certain group unit is secured since those media are sorted in a unit time.
