PURPOSE:To enable efficient printing at high speed using an image memory amounting to single page data by controlling position information stored in the first and second storage means to develop an next image when an image equivalent to at least a single page is developed on an image memory. CONSTITUTION:Character symbol patterns corresponding to entered character symbol codes are sequentially stored in an image memory 107 corresponding to data of a single printing paper. Further, an image signal generator 109 which enters output image data from one of scan buffers 108a, b to generate an image signal transmits an interruption signal to CPU 102 when the output of an output image signal equivalent to a signal scan is completed (at the next output timing of an output image). A printing mechanism part 11, in response to the ON/OFF state of an output image signal, forms an electrostatic latent image in a photosensitive drum and then forms an image while controlling the emission of a laser diode. When an image of a single page is stored in an image memory 107, an image for image formation is read to allow development of an image of next page in a vacant area. Thus time required for printing is shortened.
