PURPOSE:To enhance safety by holding a seat belt temporarily at a lock position depending upon an extent of acceleration and deceleration working upon a vehicle and providing a lock means for maintaining the lock position of the seat belt. CONSTITUTION:An acceleration and deceleration detecting means 20 and a lock means 21 are provided beneath the lower surface of a cover 17 for a retractor 9 so connected with one end 10a of a seat belt 10 as to be retractable. The acceleration and deceleration detecting means 20 comprises a weight 24 so suspended as to oscillate freely from the lower surface of a pressing plate 22 provided on the upper surface of the opening part 21a of a housing 21. Also, a lock means 21 is so made as to have the tip thereof vertically oscillating freely about a support point 25, and provided with a claw member 26 having a projection part 26a formed on the center thereof for contact with the pressing plate 22. The claw member 26 is engaged with a latchet wheel 18 via the oscillation of the weight 24 when the acceleration and deceleration is equal to or above the first predetermined value. when the acceleration and deceleration is equal to or above the second predetermined value larger than the first predetermined value, a spring 27 works to keep the claw member 26 at an engagement position.
