PURPOSE:To contrive to shorten the time required for setting a light emitting output of a laser diode, by providing a means for generating a clock pulse by which a period is short until an output of a comparing means is inverted first after a forced light emitting means is started, and thereafter, its period becomes long. CONSTITUTION:The titled controller is provided with a comparing means 108 for comparing a detected value of a light emitting output detecting means 107 with a reference value, and a variable clock generating means for generating a clock pulse by which a period is comparatively short until an output of the comparing means 108 is inverted first after a forced light emitting means is started, and thereafter, its period becomes long. In this state, while a laser diode LD does not emit a light beam, and until an output LDDS of the comparing means 108 becomes 'L' from 'H' first after the light emission is started, the LDDS is checked by a clock of a short period, and after the LD emits a light beam and the LDDS has become 'L' from 'H' first, the LDDS is checked by a clock of a long period. In such a way, the time for setting the light emitting output of the laser diode can be shortened.
