A mirror is described which is made from a carbon-fibre-reinforced carbon-containing material having a baseplate of carbon-fibre-reinforced carbon-containing material or glass-impregnated carbon-fibre-reinforced carbon-containing material and having a plate-glass (mirror-glass) layer applied to the surface of the baseplate. A layer of metal can be formed on the free surface of the plate-glass layer.
