PURPOSE:To eliminate influence of a noise amid a read action and of a bit- lacking by obtaining the density difference between a picture element and the two picture elements in its both neighborhood in the dimain scanning direction, and making the density of the picture element be the average of the densities of the neighboring tow picture elements if the difference is above a certain value. CONSTITUTION:In the case of image data read by a sensor with resolution of >=8 dot/mm in the main scanning direction, In case image data B has a large level difference to data A and also to C, it is considered that data B is bit-lacking or influenced by a noise mixed during the read action. So, when the level difference is decided to be exceeding a threshold set in a register 9 by decision circuits 4, 5, the average value of the A and C, instead of that of the B, is outputted from an average circuit 7 to a selector 8. In such a way, the influence of a noise and a bit-lacking can be eliminated.
