PURPOSE:To obtain a superconductive material of a large critical current density by making an oxide-based superconductive material into a semi-molten condition and applying a pressure under that condition. CONSTITUTION:Powder of oxide superconductive material with a composition of Y0.4Ba0.6CuO3-x or YBa2Cu3O7-x is held in a container 6. Melting the powder at 1100 deg.C, it is kept in a semi-molten condition with a heater within a range of 1100 deg.C-1050 deg.C. A superconductive wire 9 is obtained by extruding the material out of a die 8 with a ram 10. Choosing pressures from a range of 0.1-1000kg/cm<2>, the wire is processed with extrusion, forging, and rolling. Since crystal formation is incomplete in a semi-molten condition, the sizes and number of internal holes and gaps are small. Since the material is pressed and solidified under a semi-molten condition in this manufacturing method, it is possible to obtain a superconductive material of a fine and dense crystal condition. As a result, the critical current density of the superconductive wire material can be increased.
