Flat gasket with a multi-layer metallic gasket sheet, the two outer layers of which are formed by sheet-metal and which has a through opening surrounded by an annular rubber sealing element which is secured on the gasket sheet by way of an annular retaining web that engages between the outer sheet-metal layers. For the purpose of achieving retention of the rubber sealing element on the gasket sheet by purely positive engagement, the retaining web is part of the sealing element and, on both sides, has annular grooves into which the inward-bent edge regions of the outer sheet-metal layers engage.
