PURPOSE:To reform a gas with a compact device through a reduction in the amount of use of a catalyst and an improvement in the heat transfer rate, by dividing a catalyst layer into a plurality of thin layers so as to conduct heat transfer with heat condensation in heat transfer elements and utilizing a thermosiphon. CONSTITUTION:A raw gas a is passed through a porous sheet 4 placed in a reactor 20 and then through a catalyst 2 sandwiched between heat transfer elements 1. During this step, the raw gas absorbs the heat of steam c fed from an evaporator 21 and is consequently converted into a reformed gas b. The reformed gas flows outside the reactor 20. In the evaporator 21, the condensed water d in an evaporation pipe 10 is heated with a high-temp. fluid e to generate steam c. The steam c is passed through an evaporator outlet header 9 and a steam pipe 7 and flowed into a heat transfer element 1, where the steam condenses after application of heat to the catalyst 2 and the raw gas a and is passed through a reactor outlet header 6 and a condensed water pipe 8 to form condensed water d. The condensed water is then returned to an inlet header 11 of the evaporator 11. |
