PURPOSE:To perform the decision of zero at high speed for the processing result of the variable length data and at the same time to reduce the capacity of a processing program, by securing an AND between the processing result of the fraction data and a constant and deciding whether the processing result of the fraction data is equal to zero or not. CONSTITUTION:When the processing is through excluding the fraction data, the length of the variable length data is held. Then such a constant is produced by the value (b) shown by lower (a) bits of said variable length data that the bits of the b-unit are all equal to logic 1 with other bits set at logic 0 respectively and with the lower or higher bit number (a) of the variable length data defined as a single unit. An AND is secured between the processing result of the faction data and said constant and it is decided whether the processing result of the fraction data is equal to zero or not. As a result, the fraction data of the variable length data is simply processed. Thus it is possible to perform the decision of zero at a high speed for the processing result of the variable length data and also to reduce the capacity of a processing program.
