摘要 PURPOSE:To execute a stable image display, to obtain a contrast irrespective of a display pattern, and to obtain a driving waveform whose scanning time is short, by executing an auxiliary operation for making a display on a scanning electrode uniform temporarily to dark or bright against the scanning electrode to be selected in the next time. CONSTITUTION:At the time of selection, a selection of bright or dark is executed by changing the polarity of a driving voltage pulse applied to each picture element, and also, the selection or the non-selection is discriminated by the pulse width. In this case, at the time of non-selection, a pulse being smaller than the time width of the pulse applied at the time of selection, and also, the pulse of the same polarity is not applied continuously. At the time of selecting one scanning electrode, when a selected scanning signal has been applied by synchronizing with an information signal, a bright or dark state is formed on this scanning electrode, and also, a scanning auxiliary signal for executing an auxiliary operation for making a display on the scanning electrode uniform temporarily to dark or bright against the scanning electrode to be selected in the next time is applied simultaneously. In such a way, unevenness and fluctuation of the contrast can be eliminated completely, the picture quality is stabilized, and the introduction of a gradation display can be executed.
