A device which serves for orienting and positioning preferably sheet-like textile workpieces on a positioning table has at least one activatable positioning unit and a separating plate which can be moved above the positioning table. The positioning units are equipped with drivable rolls which are mounted so as to be movable above the positioning table and to be lowerable onto the positioning table, the axes of rotation of the rolls lying approximately parallel to the surface of the positioning table. For moving the individual components, pneumatic cylinders are preferably provided, the rolls are driven by electric motors and the activation is carried out via a programmable control.
