PURPOSE:To prevent ink on an ink roll from spattering and contrive higher printing quality, by maintaining the position of the ink roll in a fixed state and causing a printing member to make contact with the ink roll while changing the distance between a type part of the member and a swivel shaft when the printing member is moved from a maximum swiveling position to a preparatory position for printing, at the time of inking. CONSTITUTION:At the time of inking, a type part 10d of a type unit 10 is swiveled round a swivel shaft 11, with the type face thereof directed to an ink roll 19. A crank 4 is rotated, and a cam follower 10a is guided along a curved course (a-c) of a cam groove 13a, in the direction from a point (a) toward a point (b) of the cam groove 13a. The rotation of the type unit 10 is transmitted to a swiveling unit 12, simultaneously when a slide shaft 10c of the type unit 10 is slidden on a bearing 12a of the swiveling unit 12 while the type unit 10 is swiveled. Therefore, the distance L between the type face of the type part 10d and the swivel shaft 11 is varied as the type unit 10 is swiveled, and inking is conducted while the type part 10d and the ink roll 19 make line contact or similar contact with each other.
