PURPOSE:To produce a permanent magnet having magnetic anisotropy and high magnetic characteristics by heating a cast alloy expressed by the specific formula to a specified temp. and hot rolling the alloy simultaneously in the direction perpendicular to the direction where columnar metallic structure grows. CONSTITUTION:The alloy expressed by the general formula R (T1-yMy)z is cast where R is a rare earth elements including Y; T are transition metals essentially consisting of Fe alone or Fe and Co; M consists of a combination of elements selected from B, C, P, Si, Ge, Bi, Al, etc., and 0.01<y<0.15, 4<z<8. This cast alloy is heated to 500-1,000 deg.C and is hot rolled in such a manner that a stress is impressed in the direction perpendicular to the growth direction of the columnar crystal metal structure to finely divide the cast body to 10-1,000mu particles. After this magnetic powder is oriented in a magnetic field and is compressively molded, the powder is bonded by resins and is injection- molded in a magnetic field. Magnetic anisotropy is thereby easily obtd. and a permanent magnet having good squarness ratio is produced.
